It is my pleasure to address you as the 7th Principal of the College of Medicine & JNM Hospital, WBUHS, Kalyani, Nadia. Established in 2009, the College operates under the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The first batch of MBBS students was admitted in 2010 through the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the Government of West Bengal and the NEET-UG.

As depicted in its emblem, the College of Medicine & JNM Hospital is guided by three core principles:

  • Knowledge
  • Discipline
  • Service to Humanity

A fundamental aspect of any medical college is its hospital. This institution initially operated as a sub-divisional hospital but has since been transformed into a full-fledged medical college hospital. Additionally, the Gandhi Memorial Hospital (2nd Campus), Kalyani, Nadia, has been incorporated under its administration.

The College boasts faculties across twenty-one departments essential for the undergraduate curriculum. The initial intake capacity of 100 students is now being expanded to accommodate 150 students. Efforts are also underway to introduce postgraduate courses in various disciplines.

Our Scientific Review Committee and Ethics Committee diligently review articles submitted for publication in journals. The faculty is deeply committed to research, teaching, and maintaining the high standards of discipline expected in any academic institution. The College regularly hosts state, national, and international scientific conferences across various disciplines.

Facilities at the College include a modern OT complex, where advanced surgical procedures are performed, and a new auditorium nearing completion. Separate hostels for male, female, and postgraduate students provide comfortable accommodations. Located in the pollution-free environment of Kalyani City in the Nadia District, the College is approximately 60 km from Kolkata and is well-connected by train and bus to the state capital.

Beyond academics, our students actively engage in sports, games, and literary pursuits, contributing articles to various medical periodicals. Numerous ICMR Short-Term Studentship (STS) projects are undertaken by our meritorious students under the guidance of dedicated faculty members. Every year, many students secure postgraduate placements in different medical disciplines through the NEET-PG entrance examination.

Our students and faculty are deeply involved in community service, exemplified by initiatives such as distributing clothes and blankets to the underprivileged in slum areas. These efforts embody the spirit of service to humanity.

I am confident that, in the coming years, this College will rise to become one of the top medical colleges in India.

Jai Hind!
